Water (H2O):
- A colorless, transparent, odorless liquid that forms the seas, lakes, rivers, and rain and is the basis of the fluids of living organisms.
- It is vital for all possible forms of life, even though it does not provides food, energy, and organic micronutrients.
- It acts as a universal solvent.
- It is denoted as H2O with a molecular weight of 18 g/mole.
Uses of water in our daily life :
Domestic purposes:
- Water is directly used in life for drinking, bathing, cooking, cleaning dishes, washing, and clothes.
- Not only humans but also animals and plants need water to survive.
Agricultural Uses:
- Plants need water to survive. Seeds are not able to germinate without water.
- Water is required to grow crops.
- We know that water acts as a universal solvent and helps plants in up taking dissolved nutrients from the soil and further transporting the nutrients to various parts of the plant.
- Crop plants need water to make their food through the process of photosynthesis.
Industrial Use:
- In industries, water is mainly used as a solvent to dissolve many substances and is also used for washing, cooling, and waste disposal.
- Some industries use a large amount of water to produce commodities like paper, chemicals, food, etc.
- It is one of the good transportation mediums for people and goods by boats and ships.
- In the automobile sector, water is used in radiators of vehicles (cars, buses, trucks, etc...) to prevent their engine from heating.
- Water provides a medium for recreational sports, such as swimming, boating, water skiing, and fun water rides.
- In a hydroelectric power plant, water is used for generating electricity.
Environmental uses:
- It acts as a carrier of the plant seeds to distant locations.
- It regulates the climate of a place as well as it also helps in maintaining the body temperature of living organisms.
